This safari will take you out of Rovaniemi, straight into the Taiga forest and its beautiful nature, where you can learn more about the trees, plants and wildlife. You will also be taught how to use your surroundings to make a fire and other basic survival skills.
The tour operates all year round, with specific features attached to each season. In the summertime, you will enjoy the Taiga forest at its most lively time of the year. The undergrowth is full of delicious berries such as blueberries, lingonberries, cloudberries or cranberries, one can pick freely and enjoy as you hike.
At the beginning of autumn, the forest is showing its beautiful autumnal colours - coppers, gold, auburn, and ocher adorns the leaves of the birch trees. Autumn is also a great time to find and learn about the local shrubs and mushrooms that grow here.
For winter, the tour is adapted, and you may find a separate description of the winter version of Wilderness Survival Tour in the Winter Tours section on our website.
Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack will be provided halfway, as your guide will light a fire to keep you warm. This is a great opportunity for your guide to show you how to make a fire using traditional methods. No need for matches or a lighter, your guide will use flint & steel and natural materials have been picked on the way!
In all our activities, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. As we usually say - the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!
MIDNIGHT SUN SPECIAL: In June and July, the tour has an additional start in the evening (start at 21:00). Accompanied by your guide, you will hike through the beauty of Lapland nature highlighted by the Midnight Sun. Special attention will be given to this particular polar phenomenon, its explanation and its scientific meaning in relation to the Arctic Circle. The Midnight Sun also offers perfect warm colours to all those of you who are photo enthusiasts!
The tour operates in all weather conditions. Please dress suitably for this trip, check the weather the day before and have the necessary items ready. Not recommended for participants with heart complaints or other serious medical conditions.
Hotel pick-ups commence 10 - 60 minutes prior to the start time. Your pick up time will be confirmed by email.
