In 1673 Finns began migrating to the north and settled on the banks of the River Kemijoki and River Kitinen. We will visit some of these historical villages (such as Pyhäjärvi, Suvanto, Kairala and Pelkosenniemi).
You will also learn how the Finns were received by the Samís as these parts were regarded as Samí territory. In the middle of tour we will have coffee break and then take you to Pelkosenniemi where you will learn about ”The Battle of Pelkosenniemi” during the Winter War in 1939.
It is one of the most important battles in Lappish history.
